Snow is here! Winter is right around the corner and it may feel like time is running out to get some home repairs done before we are trapped inside for months! Fall can be a great time to double check all of your home's systems to ensure that you catch any deficiencies before they turn into problems! A benefit of an early snow is that it may help you discover some unwanted repairs before they turn into costly mistakes. When snow piles on your roof it can help identify any slow eaves and where you may have an increased risk to ice damming. It can also remind you to perform some furnace maintenance such as replacing your furnace filter or getting your ducts cleaned. Ideally these maintenance checks all happen in the summer, but when is life ideal! Speaking from experience, having your furnace malfunction in the middle of January is significantly worse than checking it now!
This is also your last chance to perform any grading or yard work before the ground freezes and you are stuck until spring. Dirt may have washed away during the summer rains and then pulled away from your house during the hot and dry August that we had. A little bit of maintenance can really save you some money down the road on expensive home repairs and being proactive about your home upkeep is the best way to keep the bank accounts full and the stress levels low.
